REPORT ON INTER-DEPARTMENT TUG OF WAR COMPETITION
Onam Celebrations 2026 – St. Albert’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam
As part of the Onam Celebrations 2026, the Department of Physical Education, St. Albert’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam, organised the Inter-Department Tug of War Competition in association with the Department of Fitness Management and Personal Training and the Department of Sports Nutrition and Physiotherapy.
The competition was organised with the objective of promoting physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, coordination, sporting spirit and healthy competition among the students. The event attracted enthusiastic participation from various departments of the college and formed an integral part of the Onam celebrations.
The competition was conducted separately for men and women, with each team comprising 10 participants, including 8 main players and 2 substitute players. The total weight of the eight players was limited to 600 kg for men's teams and 500 kg for women's teams.
Preliminary Rounds
The preliminary rounds for the Forenoon (FN) batch were conducted on 18 August 2026 at the St. Albert’s Higher Secondary School Ground. The men's category witnessed the participation of six teams, while four teams competed in the women's category.
The second set of preliminary rounds, covering the Afternoon (AN) batch, was conducted on 19 August 2026 at the same venue. There was considerable participation on the second day, with 15 men's teams and 8 women's teams taking part.
As the number of participating teams was large and the competition was highly competitive, an additional round was conducted on 20 August 2026 to determine the teams that would advance to the final stage. The rounds were conducted with active participation and strong competitive spirit from the students representing their respective departments.
Women's Category
The women's competition progressed through a series of closely contested matches. The successive rounds included the following departmental contests:
- MSW vs Journalism – Journalism emerged victorious.
- Journalism vs Computer Science – Computer Science emerged victorious.
- Fitness vs Computer Science – Computer Science emerged victorious.
Following the preliminary and qualifying rounds, Computer Science and Journalism advanced to the final.
The women's final was conducted on 21 August 2026 as part of the college's Onam celebrations at Baccinelli Hall. In the final, Computer Science secured the First Place, while Journalism secured the Second Place.

Men's Category
The men's competition also witnessed strong participation from different departments. The major matches in the qualifying stages included:
- Computer Science vs M.Com – Computer Science emerged victorious.
- Fitness vs Aquaculture – Fitness emerged victorious.
- Computer Science vs Fitness – Fitness emerged victorious.
After successfully progressing through the qualifying rounds, Fitness and Computer Science advanced to the final.
The men's final was held on 21 August 2026 as part of the Onam celebrations. In a competitive final encounter, Fitness emerged victorious to secure the First Place, while Computer Science finished as the Second Place.

Final Competition
The Semi-Finals and Finals were held on 21 August 2026, beginning at 10:15 AM onwards at Baccinelli Hall, as part of the college's Onam celebrations. The final matches brought together the best-performing teams from the preliminary rounds and provided an exciting culmination to the competition.
The event successfully combined the festive spirit of Onam with sporting excellence. The participation of a large number of students from different academic departments demonstrated the enthusiasm of the college community towards sports and physical activities. The competition also provided students with an opportunity to develop and demonstrate teamwork, strategic coordination, strength, endurance, leadership and sportsmanship.
The successful conduct of the Inter-Department Tug of War Competition was made possible through the coordinated efforts of the Department of Physical Education, in association with the Department of Fitness Management and Personal Training and the Department of Sports Nutrition and Physiotherapy. The support of the staff coordinators and student coordinator, along with the cooperation of participating departments and students, contributed to the smooth conduct of the event.
The competition concluded with the finals on 21 August 2026, adding excitement and sporting enthusiasm to the Onam Celebrations 2026 at St. Albert's College (Autonomous), Ernakulam. It served as a successful platform for bringing students together in the spirit of teamwork, healthy competition, fitness and celebration.
