As part of ‘World Oceans Day’, Ocean Society of India (OSI) and Ministry of Earth Science (MoES), Government of India organized Beach cleaning Activity in Puthuvype Beach on 8th June 2024. This event was coordinated by School of Marine Science, Cochin University of Science and Technology in association with St. Albert’s College Ernakulam, Society of Marine Biologists, Marine Biology Alumni Association, Bharath Mata College, Thrikkakara, Maharajas College, Ernakulam, St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam, Sacred Hearts College, Thevara and Association of Fisheries Graduates. 16 students from B.Sc. Aquaculture, 9 students from B.Voc Commercial Aquaculture and 6 students from B.Sc. Industrial Fisheries with 2 faculty co-ordinators Dr. Sree Renjima G., HoD, RDFA (SF-AN) and Dr. Bindhi S. Kumar (Govt. Guest Faculty) assembled at Puthuvype Beach at 8 A.M. The event was inaugurated by the Puthuvype M.L.A Mr. K. N. Unnikrishnan. Presidential address was given by Rasikala Priyaraj, Panchayath President, Elamkunnapuzha Grama Panchayath. following this the program coordinator Dr. P. Priyaja and Dr. Vishnu Venugopal discussed the importance of keeping the oceans clean. Dr. V. N. Kurian, President of the Ocean Society of India and Dr. A. A. Muhammad Hatha, Director of the School of Marine Science, also addressed the audience on this occasion. An awareness talk was given by Ward Member Mr. Swathish Sathyan. All the students and faculty members participated in the cleaning activity. They collected the solid wastes and then segregated them into plastic wastes, paper wastes, thermocol waste, glass and others. Breakfast was provided to all the participants. The collected waste was handed over to Haritha Karma sena members. All the participants received certificates. The program officially came to an end at 12:00 PM. View Poster View Brochure
