On 16th December 2024, the Department of Economics, in association with the NSS – Unit 32 of St. Albert’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam, organized an invited talk by Prof. Moshe Justman, Dean, School of Economics and Business Administration, Ruppin Academic Center and Professor emeritus, Department of Economics, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. The College extended a cordial welcome to Prof. Justman and an interactive meeting with the college management was organised in the principal’s room. The formal event started at 10:15 AM in Bernard Hall. Welcome address was delivered by Ms. Asha Maria Thomas, Program coordinator and Assistant Professor, Department of Economics. Dr. Joseph Justin Rebello, Principal, St. Albert’s College (Autonomous), presided over the function. Rev. Fr. Shine Pauly Kalathil, Registrar, St. Albert’s College (Autonomous), Dr. Jincy Joseph k. Dean, Student Affairs and Dr. Geo Fernandes, Dean, International Affairs also graced the event with their presence. Prof. Justman in his forty-five minutes talk on ‘Economics of Education’ dealt with the research findings of his study on first generation and second-generation students in Israel. He showed that education and wealth of parents paved way for a significant advantage in educational attainments of second-generation students when compared to first generation students. However. the advantage is not significant when it comes to their earnings. A Q and A session followed afterwards in which students raised their questions and queries regarding the education system. A memento was presented to the chief guest by the Principal as a token of appreciation. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Mahadevan M.S., Chairperson, SEED.
