A one-day hands-on workshop on ‘Basic Microbial Techniques’ was organized by the Department of Zoology for the Second Professional BAMS 2022 batch of SNIASR, Puthur, Kollam. The programme was conducted as part of the student exchange initiative under the MoU signed between the Department of Zoology of our college and the Department of Roga Nidan Evum Vikriti Vijnan, Sree Narayana Institute of Ayurvedic Sciences and Research, Puthur, Kollam. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Deepthi Augustine and Dr. Anooja V. V., with student coordinators Angel Teena and Annlina of I M.Sc. Zoology (Batch 2025–2027). The session commenced with a formal welcome address by Ms. Celin Nimisha Vijayan, faculty member, Department of Zoology. The technical sessions included demonstrations and hands-on training on Serological Techniques by Dr. Deepthi Augustine, Staining Techniques by Dr. Anooja V. V., and Familiarization with Laboratory Instruments by Ms. Celin Nimisha Vijayan. Advanced learners Ms. Keerthana, Ms. Steniya, Mr. Adithyan, Mr. Pranav P A, Ms. Anjana Dinesan, Ms. Anna Shibu, and Ms. Elizabeth Likha of II M.Sc. Zoology, along with Ms. Nileena Elizabeth, Lab Assistant, provided valuable assistance throughout the sessionA total of 22 students, accompanied by two faculty members—Dr. Roselin Joseph and Dr. Jyothis A. J.—and one non-teaching staff member, participated in the workshop. The participants were also given an opportunity to explore the Zoology Museum, which added an enriching element to the learning experience. The workshop proved to be a highly productive and interactive session, enhancing the students’ understanding of fundamental microbiological practices and fostering academic collaboration between the two institutions.
