INTERNATIONAL PROSTHETICS AND ORTHOTICS DAY 2025 CELEBRATION

The Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics Kerala (SPOK) in association with the Department of Botany and the Committee for Students with Disability of St. Albert’s College (Autonomous) (SACA), Ernakulam, celebrated International Prosthetics and Orthotics Day on 5th November, 2025 to promote awareness on assistive technologies and inclusivity for differently-abled persons. An essay competition was conducted on the 31st of October, 2025 at 10 am at the Botany UG laboratory based on the theme “From Disability to Ability: The Role of Prosthetics and Orthotics in Inclusive Rehabilitation”. Anciya Francis of PG Chemistry, Sreya M A of B.Com. Taxation (SF) and Steven T R of UG Physics were awarded the first, second and third positions respectively. The inaugural session was led by Sri. K. Moideen Kutty, Managing Director, Kerala State Differently Abled Persons Welfare Corporation, Thiruvananthapuram. Rev. Dr. Antony Thoppil, Chairman and Manager, SACA and Dr. Joseph Justin Rebello, Principal, SACA addressed the gathering. The chief guest gave away the certificates and cash prizes to the winners of the IPOD essay competition. Mementos were also given to the judges of the essay competition Dr. Mary Jain Jose and Dr. Liz Mary Antony, and all the dignitaries present. Dr. K. Madhusudhanan, Professor and Head, Department of Botany, SACA delivered the vote of thanks. The technical session was handled by Mr. K. Hariram, President of SPOK, who spoke on innovations in prosthetic and orthotic care. The programme was coordinated by Ms. Mary Joseph, Assistant Professor, SACA, Ms. Aswathy S., SPOK member and Ms. Gowrinandhana L., along with other PG Botany students ensuring active student participation and awareness.
