The Department of Botany organized “Punarnava” on 23rd July 2025, highlighting the traditional healing wisdom of Karkidaka Chikitsa under the theme “Karkidaka Soukyathinu Prakrithiyude Sparsham “ The event featured an exhibition and expert talk, drawing wide participation from students, faculty, and staff. The exhibition, held at Baccinelli Hall from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m., showcased traditional herbal preparations and practices associated with Karkidaka Masam. Live displays and charts featured medicinal plants, Karkidaka Kanji, Pathila, Oushadha Kaapi, Dashapushpam, Marunnunda, Mukkutti Chanthu, and Mailanji. A tasting session of Karkidaka Kanji and Oushadha Kaapi added sensory depth, while herbal pastes and nail decorations invited hands-on engagement. The event also included a sales counter, where select herbal products were made available, receiving an enthusiastic response from visitors. At 12:00 p.m., a session titled “Understanding Karkidaka Chikitsa: Principles and Practices” was held at the UG Botany Lab, led by Dr. Reshma P. John, Assistant Professor, Govt. Ayurveda College, Thripunithura. She spoke on seasonal detox, dietary protocols, and the therapeutic value of traditional botanicals like Dashapushpam. The interactive session saw active student participation. The programme was conducted under the leadership of Prof. Dr. K. Madhusudanan and coordinated by Mrs. Drishya K. Raghuvaran and Dr. Shahina N. K., with student coordinators Ms. Aiswarya Prakash and Ms. Aiswarya C. R. Ms. Avya Mary Roy delivered the Vote of Thanks. “Punarnava” served as a vibrant convergence of education, tradition, and experience, showcasing the depth of Indian Knowledge System reviving Kerala’s ethnobotanical heritage while promoting sustainable, nature-based healing practices.
