Activity Location : Bernard Hall
Ms. Lakshmi Sreenivasan delivered an insightful seminar on "Promising 3rd Generation Solar Cells." The event aimed to educate participants about the advancements in solar technology and the potential of third-generation solar cells. Ms. Sreenivasan introduced the fundamental concepts of solar cells, explaining their function in converting sunlight into electricity. Detailed discussions on the characteristics, efficiencies, and limitations of first and second-generation solar cells provided a solid foundation for understanding the subsequent evolution. She addressed the challenges faced by earlier technologies, such as high production costs and efficiency limitations. The focus then shifted to the exciting developments in third-generation solar cells, particularly Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs) and Perovskite-Sensitized Solar Cells. Ms. Sreenivasan outlined the benefits of third-generation technologies, including lower costs and higher efficiencies, while also addressing ongoing challenges such as stability and scalability. Discussion included potential new models and innovations in the solar cell landscape, emphasizing the importance of research and development. Ms. Sreenivasan encouraged master's students to visit the research lab at CUSAT during the solar cell fabrication period. This hands-on experience would provide valuable insights into the practical aspects of solar cell development. View Poster View Brochure
