The Department of Zoology, St. Albert's College, conducted an awareness program on Bioethics for undergraduate and postgraduate students of St. Albert's College (Autonomous) on 21st October 2024. A team of dedicated resource persons from the Prof. N. R Madhava Menon Inter Disciplinary Centre for Research Ethics and Protocol, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) handled the session. This event was organized as part of the World Bioethics Day celebrations,2024. The program aimed to sensitize the audience to the significance of bioethics. The speakers delved into various aspects of bioethics, including: Ethical considerations in medical research: The students discussed the importance of informed consent, patient autonomy, and the ethical implications of clinical trials. Emerging technologies and ethical dilemmas: They highlighted the ethical challenges posed by advancements in fields like genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology. Ethical issues in healthcare: The speakers addressed topics such as end-of-life care, organ donation, and equitable access to healthcare. The awareness program was well-received by the audience, generating insightful discussions and questions. The presentations were informative, engaging, and thought-provoking. The event successfully raised awareness about the critical role of bioethics in shaping the future of healthcare and scientific research. The bioethics awareness program was a significant contribution to the celebration of World Bioethics Day. By addressing relevant ethical issues, the resource persons empowered the audience to make informed decisions and promote ethical practices in research.
