The MPOWERPlacement Training Program, hosted by the Department of Social Work at St. Albert's College, Ernakulam, provided the MSW Batch of 2023-2025 with essential placement skills to prepare them for their fieldwork. The initial sessions, held from July 29 to August 1, 2024, focused on core skills like communication, teamwork, and time management. The Inaugural Session began with a prayer dance by second-year trainees, followed by a welcome address from Ms. Sifa Thangal, an address by the Principal Dr. Bijoy V M, and an inspiring keynote by Mr. Krishnakumar K, who emphasized proactive engagement in social work placements. Additional guidance from faculty members and resource persons laid a solid foundation for the upcoming training. Led by Ms. Mridhula M and Mr. Krishnakumar K, the sessions included ice-breaking activities, team-building exercises, and engaging workshops that fostered creativity, problem solving, and a practical understanding of social work principles. Activities like group logo creation and presentations encouraged teamwork and self-awareness, while reflective tasks promoted professional ethics and resilience. Heavy rains caused a break in the program, which resumed on November 7, 2024. This second phase focused on advanced skill-building exercises, including mock interviews, real-world case studies, and reflective sessions that allowed trainees to consider personal growth, adaptability, and practical applications of their knowledge. The program concluded with an impactful final day on November 8, which included an advertisement competition, a quiz on interview techniques, and a group discussion. The Valedictory Function featured dignitaries such as Fr. Jenson Livera Ithithara and Dr. Joseph Justin Rebello, who commended the students for their dedication. Awards like Best Empowerment Team recognized outstanding participation, fostering a sense of achievement and camaraderie among the trainees. Through this program, students gained practical insights and confidence, leaving better prepared for field placements and future careers in social work.
